Sigma Gamma Tau is the National Aerospace Engineering Honor Society. The purpose of Sigma Gamma Tau, as stated in the preamble of the Society's national constitution, are: "to recognize and honor those individuals in the field of Aeronautics and Astronautics who have, through scholarship, integrity, and outstanding achievement, been a credit to their profession. The society seeks to foster a high standard of ethics and professional practice and create a spirit of loyalty and fellowship, particularly among students of Aerospace Engineering."
At Texas A&M University the organization is focused on giving back to those who are pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering. This is done through hosting test reviews, facilitating a mentorship program, and having different events to foster a community within the department.
Membership to Sigma Gamma Tau is a high honor. To be considered for membership, students must have completed all of the required sophomore level courses in the aerospace engineering curriculum. Additionally, they must either be enrolled in or have completed a minimum of three of their junior year second semester courses as described by their curriculum.
The top 25% of Juniors, top 30% of Seniors, and all Graduate students in good academic standing in Aerospace Engineering are invited to join the society.
